This morning's (Sunday, 11-7-21) 7.0° F minimum temperature logged near sunrise at the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge VA Tech research station (installed, operated, and maintained by VA Tech instructor David Carroll) in the northern, undisturbed end of Canaan Valley was again today's lowest recognized temperature by the National Weather Service in the lower 48 states with temperatures received through 7 am EDT. Canaan Valley is only 125 due west of Washington D.C. as the crow flies. This cold reading comes on top of the three previous mornings lows of 10 F, 10 F, and 9 F, all three being very close to the lowest in the contiguous U.S. Cold morning valley bottom temperatures will begin moderating now and should stay above freezing by later this week. I continue to monitor the potential for some winter weather and snow developing next Sunday. More discussion on that potential around mid-week. Your Fearless Canaan Weatherman
