Super friendly hosts with a keen understanding of the area and willing to share. Inside garage parking.

Ski out the door onto the entire trail system...borders US Fish and Wildlife, a mile to the Dolly Sods Wilderness or Canaan Valley State Park.

Country roads in all directions, peace and quiet, brook trout stream rushes through this cool breezy mountain getaway.

Hardwood floors and tile throughout. Super cozy and comfortable. We are looking forward to meeting you!

Chip and Laurie's home is adjacent to Trail Side. Cooper, the friendly dog, may be out to greet you.

The perfect summer getaway! Our first trip to the Canaan Valley and we could not have chosen a better spot. We took advantage of Dolly Sods (right out the door), Nelson Rocks Outdoor Center, Blackwater Falls, and of course the wonderful apartment itself. Chip and Laurie shared some great recommendations as well as some greens from their gardens. Relaxing, adventure filled, gorgeous, and comfortable. We loved it and can't wait to return. Finally the perfect answer to the where to stay while in Canaan question. Convenient! Plus nicely appointed both aesthetically and functionally. This will be our number one choice for all future trips to Wonderful White Grass. Joan and Marion Gottlieb

Wow, We found the golden egg! This place is such a treasure. Feel like we've met old friends within the most cozy, well designed, and placed quarters possible. The cafe food was amazing, the company and camaraderie unparalleled, and the place on point perfect! Thanks for the firing the sauna, it truly completed the trip. The Garage-Mahal could not be more comfortable or charming! Cozy and thoughtfully equipped, we found everything we hope for to make our stay...Bliss! Many Thanks! Constance and Tom Bowden

We’ve used Chip Chase’s Garage Mahall two or three times now as a naturally cool getaway from summer heat in the lowlands.  Up two sets of stairs, it is a comfortable, efficient two bedroom layout with kitchen, living room, deck, washing machine/dryer and excellent WiFi.  We can count on quiet nights away from road noise on the one main route through Canaan Valley, a plateau at 4,000 feet high, with breezes through the magnificent sugar maples around Garage Mahall and Chip’s house (the only one) nearby.  Yet the location is minutes from all kinds of outdoor activities in one of eastern North America’s most beautiful and mysterious ecosystems.  Hiking trails start at the doorstep.  Chip is a conscientious and generous host.  We are definitely coming back again. Our first stay here and extended visit to Canaan out of xc season proved to be a stellar choice. Very comfortable home away for the 3 of us, dog included. Beautiful, quiet, secluded setting with the background sounds of water running and cattle mooing. Acess to WG trail system and beyond. Good weather mix mostly crisp and clear. Best of all gracious hosts, always available, glad to share their encyclopaedic knowledge of Canaan, its history, people, critters, plants, geology, etc. We had a great time and thanks to Chip and Laurie and family. Anne, John, and Maybelle Sills, Swoope, VA

There are not enough superlatives in Webster to describe how special our time has been here....This has been a wonderful time and we will both be back! Cleve and Alice, Crozet, VA

We stayed at Chip and Laurie's fantastic cabin for the summer. It was perfect and had everything we needed for a summer working remotely. The place is well laid out and designed as well as inviting and comfortable. It is set at the end of a country road adjacent to the White Grass cross country center and the Canaan Wildlife Refuge with streams and creeks flowing through the property that can be heard at night and create a most serene and calm atmosphere.

Everything worked perfectly for our stay and the place was more than we expected and could have asked for. The cabin is new and well stocked and provides all the comforts one would need for a short or long stay. The kitchen was great for cooking and the south facing deck provided hours of relaxing, sunning, and enjoying the quiet of nature.

There are hiking trails straight from the property and the location provides easy access to Dolly Sods where we enjoyed some amazing hikes and loads of wild blueberry picking. Chip is a avid outdoors man and naturalist and helped us with any info and suggestions of places to go and things to see and do. He also took us mushroom hunting and we enjoyed many a dinner with freshly picked chanterelles or other delicious mushrooms that he had brought to us. And if it wasn't mushrooms then we received a "delivery" of fresh vegetables and herbs from their vegetable garden. Laurie, being a consummate chef and caterer helped with any kitchen supplies and odds and ends that we needed and was often bringing over fresh offerings.

We cannot say enough about Chip and Laurie and we highly recommend their beautiful cabin! You will not be sorry no matter what the season. We plan to return and hopefully will be able to take advantage of the easy access to miles and miles of cross country skiing and snowshoeing right from the cabin's doorstep. Jordan Bloom and Batya Medalitz, teaching yoga worldwide.
